Assort New York is a Japanese hair salon on Jones Street in the West Village, Manhattan — three minutes on foot from the West 4th Street–Washington Square subway station. Local clients and visitors from around the world come for Japanese hairdressing technique and hospitality.

Work eligibility in the United States
The United States has no working holiday programme. If you live in the US, you need your own work eligibility — citizenship, a green card, OPT or an O-1 visa — and a New York State cosmetology licence. If you apply from Japan, there are two main ways, and a rare third. (1) Straight to New York: online interviews → an O-1B visa filed by Assort, Inc. → a trial day at our Tokyo or Osaka salon → your New York State licence → start. (2) Join us in Japan first: you are hired at our Tokyo or Osaka salon and work there while the visa is prepared, then move to New York once your visa and licence are ready — many people choose this way (to work as a hairdresser in Japan you need a Japanese cosmetology licence, 美容師免許). (3) Rarely, hired from the online interview: sometimes we hire from the online interview alone, with no trial day. You then get your own US work eligibility (such as a green card — not a visa filed by us) and your New York State licence, tell us when they are ready, and start directly in New York. Salon Receptionist
The face of the salon — the role that welcomes our clients. Our receptionists are also the salon's content creators: they make the salon's Instagram posts, reels and stories, and write articles for the salon's website journal. No hairdressing licence required. Your photo is shown on the salon's website: this is part of the job.
