Assort Tokyo is a hair salon in Kita-Aoyama, Tokyo — the Omotesando / Gaiemmae area — five minutes on foot from Gaiemmae Station. Alongside local clients, many visitors from overseas come through its doors.

Over 1.4 million followers
Assort's TikTok, Instagram and YouTube accounts have over 1.4 million followers in total (November 2026). When a salon post features your work, you are invited as a collaborator, so it can appear on your own Instagram too. For freelancers, that means being seen by many people; for employees, it means working at a salon many people already know.

Done at 6pm, with time for your own life
9:00–18:00, break included. Many salons stay open late; Assort closes at 6pm. We value each person's work–life balance.

Training that keeps you growing
Stylists also take on monthly cut and colour tasks, scored by our educators within 14 days. Assistants learn eight basic skills one by one, through a test, a demonstration, practice and a filmed final test (pass mark: 80 points). Assort Tokyo also holds model practice.

No age limit: we value experience
In our Japan salons (Tokyo and Osaka), stylists in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond work with us. If finding salon work has felt harder as the years go by, we see your years as experience.

Move abroad without changing company
Salons in Tokyo, Osaka, New York, London, Amsterdam, Hong Kong and Melbourne, with Vancouver opening in January 2027. There is no minimum length of service to move to a salon abroad. The company books your one-way flight, and you repay nothing once you have worked a set period. Since 2025, staff from Tokyo and Osaka have moved to London, Hong Kong, Amsterdam and Melbourne.

Visas, work eligibility — and the path overseas
To work as a hairdresser (stylist or assistant) at our salons in Japan, you need both a Japanese cosmetology licence (美容師免許) and a status that lets you work as a hairdresser in Japan (Japanese citizenship, permanent residence, a spouse or long-term resident visa, and similar). Students at a Japanese cosmetology school may apply before they hold the licence (it follows the national exam). Assort does not sponsor visas for hairdressers in Japan. For other roles, such as receptionist, you can apply with your own right to work in Japan (a work visa or a working holiday).
